Kermadec photos : Bell’s track series

A series inspired by walking the track to Denham Bay on Raoul Island. This track is the same that Tom Bell and his family used in the late 1800′s – it takes you right along the rim of the live volcano. A few weeks before we arrived a cyclone had ripped through causing notable damage to the bush.

I found this bush beautiful but also dark and ominous. It almost felt as if the mountain was watching you.

All of these were taken with a 100 year old glass lens which has been modified to fit a modern DSLR camera. I love the idea that the old lens is close to what Bell might have had to record his own walk.
